Team Walker students celebrate Read Across America Day

On Saturday, March 2, Read Across America Day was celebrated throughout the country. The day is put in place to promote reading across the United States, particularly in students and young adults.

Although Team Walker’s programs were not in session on the actual day, Team Walker’s students celebrated on March 1 and throughout the month of March with a variety of activities.

Team Walker’s teachers encouraged students to read various books throughout the month. Mrs. DeSousa and Ms. Wilson assigned novels and short stories for enrichment, and Mrs. Ray assigned biographies to expose her students to different authors and books. Students wrote summaries and noted their main takeaways for each book they read.

Ms. Sabahs first graders, such as William, and Ms. Perez’s second graders, such as Mia, read exciting books and shared what they learned in reading circles!

No matter what grade our students are in or how old they are, we must remember one important thing: Reading is fundamental.
