Mommy & Me Afternoon Tea at Team Walker

In celebration of Women’s History Month, Team Walker held its inaugural “Mommy & Me Afternoon Tea” on Friday, March 29, at the After School Program.

The month of March is Women’s History Month. Throughout March, students in Team Walker’s After School Program learned about notable and famous women. Teachers had their students explore biographies, autobiographies and other texts to learn about the various women who impacted the STEAM and education fields.

As part of a multi-day project, Mrs. Ray’s fourth-grade students wrote letters to an inspirational woman in their lives. This assignment challenged students to select an inspiration woman in their lives, such as their moms, grandmas, aunties, etc., and to think about why this woman is inspirational to them critically. During the brainstorming and drafting process, students were assessed and improved upon their writing skills.

Team Walker wrapped-up Women’s History Month with its first ever Mommy & Me Afternoon Tea party. As part of the event, inspirational women in our fourth-grade students’ lives, such as their moms, grandmas, sisters, aunties and guardians, were invited for an afternoon tea party.  Attendees enjoyed tea, coffee, cookies, baked goods and motivational speeches from our students. Students read their letters to their inspirational woman and hand-delivered these letters along with a flower to them.

At the end of the inaugural Mommy & Me Afternoon Tea, students danced with their inspirational woman, and attendees went home with their own Mommy & Me coffee cups! The first ever Mommy & Me Afternoon Tea was a huge success, and we cannot wait for next year!
