What is the After School Program?
Team Walker’s After School Program is a FREE academic and enrichment program designed to help Jersey City students succeed in the classroom and in life. We offer access to certified teachers that are available to help with homework, studying and tutoring. We also offer supplemental STEAM instruction designed to help our students get ahead in the fields that matter most in today’s ever-changing society. Additionally, recreation programs are available for all students.
In Team Walker’s Assessment Program, students’ performance in math and language arts are measured biannually. Our teachers then develop and implement individualized and targeted lessons in math and language arts to students, especially those students who are below grade-level performance.
Students will enjoy and experience the following from the After School Program:
- STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) workshops
- Academic enrichment and remediation
- Healthy snacks and meals
- Culture and the arts
- Athletics
- Reading and math assessments
- Positive youth development
- A very fun time!
Furthermore, select Team Walker students participate in a Saturday STEM MakerLab Program at the Liberty Science Center, which is exclusive to Team Walker. Students learn about and gain hands-on experience with 3-D printing, laser cutting, soldering, Arduino coding, vacuforming and prop and costume making.
As of the 2018-2019 school year, Team Walker’s After School Program (Grades 3-10) is once again a Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) Program!
This project was funded in its entirety with federal funds under the Every Student Succeeds Act, Title IV, Part B, Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) program, through a grant agreement with the New Jersey Department of Education.
