Free Farmers Market &
Healthy Eating Initiatives
Every Saturday during the Summer
TBA for 2020
Dr. Lena Edwards Park (Baby Rucker)
10 – 11 a.m.
In conjunction with America’s Grow-a-Row, Team Walker hosts a farmers market every year at Dr. Lena Edwards Park (Baby Rucker) every Saturday during the summer from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. We recommend attendees to arrive early as the fresh produce flies off the tables due to high demand.
This year, Team Walker distributed over 27,000 pounds of fresh produce to Jersey City community members. Team Walker’s Farmers Market allows low-income families to have an opportunity like everyone else to eat healthily. More often than not, the produce on store shelves is not fresh and has been sitting there for weeks.
While the farmers market is completely free to all attendees, we encourage individuals to give back in any way they can.
Individuals can “pay what they can,” make a donation or volunteer their time during one of the community giveback days at America’s Grow-a-Row’s farm in Pittstown, New Jersey. The Community Giveback Trip usually runs in August; please call Team Walker’s Main Office for more info during the summer.
Healthy Eating Initiatives
During the school year, Team Walker students participate in Grow-a-Row’s Healthy Eating Lessons in the After School Program. The children learn about and how to cook with the different parts of fruits, vegetables and plants. And, most importantly, the students learn how to cook and eat healthily.
